Starting a tiling project should be exciting, but more often than not it is daunting. If you’re not sure where to begin, or you’re looking for some guidance from industry experts, here are a few of our top tips:
1. Choose the right tiles
Selecting the right tiles goes beyond your colour and design preference. Be sure to consider the finish that will suit each room. For example, porcelain matt tiles are a common choice for bathroom and laundry floors, as they are easy to keep clean.
2. Use high-quality tiles
It’s paramount to choose high-quality tiles. This will help you save money in the long run. This is because quality tiles are low maintenance and simple to lay. Cheaper tiles, on the other hand, may crack quickly or fit incongruently.
3. Prepare the surface
Before you get started, remember to clean and smooth the surface where you will be laying the tiles. It’s important to remove any coatings prior to tiling.
4. Take it slow
Some areas are trickier than others to tile, such as around doors, windows and drains. Setting a drain requires a lot more than just dropping it in. As such, we recommend contacting an expert to achieve exact planning.
5. Order more than you need
While some first-time tile-buyers order the precise number of tiles needed to cover an area, this leaves no room for error! It’s best practice to get 10% more tiles than the minimum you’ve calculated.
